Kubernetes Pods: the smallest deployable unit

Short answer

A Pod is one or more containers that share storage and network and are always scheduled together. It is the smallest unit Kubernetes runs. Usually a controller creates Pods for you. [S1]

Lifecycle

Pods move through phases such as Pending, Running, then Succeeded or Failed. The phase is a short summary of where the Pod is in its life. [S2]
