Falk Zscheile, speaking at FrOSCon on 15 August 2026, asks whether licence terms can protect open data and open content from AI use. The description says public knowledge sources such as Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap can barely cope with AI bots, and that AI use endangers the idea of open data and open content, or at least calls it into question. The talk, as announced, has two steps. The first looks at the legal frame: why AI bots may read databases and websites without being asked, and which legal limits exist for that in Europe. The second asks what that legal position means for open-content and open-data licences, including the Creative Commons licences and the Open Database License used by OpenStreetMap, and whether adding to or changing the licence terms could help.
