# PaperDebugger: A Plugin-Based Multi-Agent System for In-Editor Academic Writing, Review, and Editing

## Summary
A short demo paper: a Chrome extension that embeds a multi-agent LLM assistant inside Overleaf, with bidirectional sync to the editor, diff-based patches, Kubernetes-orchestrated agents (e.g. reviewer/enhancer/scoring/researcher roles), and an MCP toolchain for literature search, reference lookup and document scoring (Abstract; §2–3).

## When to apply
- Building an agent that edits a user's document in place: the useful pattern is propose-diff → user accepts → patch, with tool calls via MCP.

## Procedure
1. User selects text; agent runs critique + rewrite; return before/after diff.
2. Apply patch only on user acceptance; keep version history.
3. Optionally run literature/reference tools to suggest citations; user verifies.

## Costs and limits
- No controlled evaluation of writing quality or citation accuracy; demo paper (~3K words).
- Needs Chrome extension access to manuscripts (privacy consideration).

## Evidence (detail)
- Only usage analytics, no quality evaluation: 4116 extension installs, 2761 registered users, 732 monthly active users, 3106 projects, 7447 writing threads (§4 usage analytics).
