## Summary
Yao, Zhao, Yu, Du, Shafran, Narasimhan, and Cao treat "think step by step" and "call a tool" as one loop rather than two separate tricks. The model writes a short reasoning trace, takes an action against an outside source such as a Wikipedia API or a task environment, then updates the plan from what came back. On HotpotQA and FEVER they say this cuts the hallucination and error-carryover they saw when the model only wrote a chain of thought with no lookup. On ALFWorld and WebShop they report absolute success-rate gains of 34 and 10 points over imitation and reinforcement-learning baselines, using one or two examples in the prompt. They also argue the traces are easier for a person to follow than actions with no written reason. This note follows the abstract page only.

## Why it is here
The agent notes describe a loop of looking something up, acting, and checking the result. ReAct is the paper those notes are pointing at when they talk about interleaving a reason with a tool call, instead of trusting a single closed-book answer.
