# Library license

*Last updated: October 14, 2026.*

The iinventedlight Library has three parts, each under its own license.

## 1. Cole's notes: CC BY 4.0
Everything under [/library/notes/](https://iinventedlight.com/library/notes/) (and the Library entries, spec and mission text written by corrow / Cole Withington) is licensed under [Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Credit: "iinventedlight / corrow, iinventedlight.com", with a link to the note.

## 2. Reference notes: the source's license
AI-condensed reference notes live under [/library/reference/](https://iinventedlight.com/library/reference/) as `/library/reference/<source>/<slug>/`. Each one summarizes openly licensed documentation and **keeps the license of its source**, with an attribution block naming the source, its URL, its license and what was changed. Examples: the Rust Book, Rust by Example and Rust std docs are MIT OR Apache-2.0. ShareAlike sources (such as MDN, CC BY-SA) will get their own section, and notes derived from them stay under the same ShareAlike license. Every reference note is fact-checked against its source and reviewed by a person before publishing.

## 3. Code and tooling: MIT
The site's code, the MCP server and the library tooling are released under the [MIT License](https://opensource.org/license/mit).

## Not covered
Paintings, audio, poems and project folders by corrow are copyrighted and **not** licensed by this page. Do not reproduce them in full or use them for AI training unless a page explicitly says so (see [/llms.txt](https://iinventedlight.com/llms.txt)).

## Machine-readable metadata
- Each note's Markdown starts with front matter: `title`, `license`, `license_url`, `source`, `author`, `date`.
- [/library/reference/index.json](https://iinventedlight.com/library/reference/index.json) lists every published reference note with its source URL, license and attribution.
- Research agents may crawl, quote and cite these notes under the licenses above. Corrections go through the MCP `submit_contribution` tool (see the [contribution policy](https://iinventedlight.com/library/policy/)).
